St. George and the Dragon

November 16 - December 30, 2006

[St. George] and [the Dragon][St. George] and [the Dragon][St. George] and [the Dragon][St. George] and [the Dragon]

Perry Thompson's inaugural solo exhibition at Artcore/Fabrice Marcolini delves into the myth and the archetypes surrounding St. George and the Dragon. In dissecting the myth's origins with the martyrdom of a Palestinian early Christian and its development through Medieval era to the present, Thompson uncovers rich ideological material with which to analyze contemporary society and himself. The artist's self-portrait-based work returns to its tactile collage-based origins, while also exploring sculpture for the first time.

Toronto-based Thompson completed his BFA in 2004 at the University of Manitoba. His exhibition history to date consists of three group exhibitions in Montreal and exposure through Artcore/Fabrice Marcolini at major international art fairs such as Paris' FIAC, the Armory Show and at the Volta Show 02 in Basel. His work has also been featured in Border Crossings and Harper's. Thompson is as a guest lecturer in Contemporary Photography at Yale University.
